February 2, 2007 ~ Current
The next phase of my Way. A recording project: a full album of my original tunes. Coming soon - stay tuned.
I am going to record myself on Drums, Percussion, Guitar, Piano, Vocals, Didgeridoo, and possibly more instruments.
I also plan to enlist the recording talents of some very good friends and family across the continent.
HK3
Summer 2007 ~ Current
A purely instrumental band, HK3 showcases Jeremy's melodic compositions and intricate guitar work. Originally a trio, I joined the group on percussion a few months after moving to Utah, playing Congas and Timbales, and once in a while saying something between songs, since I'm the only one with a microphone, or hair for that matter. Without a singer to distract from the music, this band is all about letting the music do the talking, and the songs tell their own story without words - music for it's own sake.
Other Musicians: Jeremy Nivison - Guitar; Rob McWhorter - Drums; Pier Antonio Michielli - Bass
African Drumming
2007 ~ Current
For the last couple of years, I have been part of an African Drum ensemble, performing often at Utah State University with Jaynan Chancellor's African Dance class, as well as various performances elsewhere in Cache Valley. The ancient and complex rhythms can both inspire the frenetic dance and hypnotize the listener. The traditional arrangements include Dunun, Sangban and Kenkeni drums, along with several Djembes, playing several different parts at once to weave an overwhelming master rhythm.
Other Drummers include: Travis and Jennifer Sapp; Jake Gibson; Travis Taylor; Wade Evans; Chase Griswold; Brendon Zoah; Jen Minnick; Kevin Kobe; ...and then some.
Frame of Mind
May, 2004 ~ January, 2007
Funky and largly improvisational live band. Long, continuous sets and tours.
3 Studio Albums, 600+ Gigs in 3 Years and 12 States.
As early as 2001, I sat in with the band on Percussion, and played
Percussion only in the Electric Quintet until August, 2004.
Afterwards, I played both Drums & Percussion, simultaneously, in the Electric Quartet.
For the whole duration, I also played a Hybrid Hand Percussion setup in the Acoustic Quartet.
Other Musicians: Bruce Maurey - Drums; Nimai Pickup - Bass; Obie Scott - Guitar; Josh Scott - Various Instruments
Fung
February 2003 ~ April 2004
A very experimental improv oriented project.
One studio release, many live recordings, several out-of-body experiences.
Played Voodoo Fest 2003 in New Orleans, despite a blown bus head gasket in Tuscon.
(We all got to the gig in a Ryder truck, fixed it ourselves on the way back.)
Other Musicians: Ryan Coughran - Winds, Keys; Chris McKinney - Keys; "KnanderMueller" - Guitar;
Jaimo "Whammo" Welch - Bass (Dec '03 ~ Feb '04); Matt "Billsnlithlituhr" Welch - Bass (Feb '03 ~ Nov '03, Spring '04)
Worms Union
Spring 2002 ~October 2002
A bizarre live phenomenon, with outlandish costumes and fire dancing, tribal rhythms and diverse ethnic instrumentation.
The first band I toured across several states with, this band dissolved after
Voodoo Fest '02, only to reunite every Halloween afterwards. I played Congas
and Timbales with the Worms, and wore a very imposing outfit. As a stage and
street live performance group, it was common for us to play with only drums
and fire, parading around places like Venice Beach and downtown anywhere.
Other Musicians: Elmo - Guitar, Electric Bouzouki, Tzouras, percussion; Valerie - Vocals, Guitar, Percussion, Fire;
Dan Sheridan - Bass, Percussion; Timinator None - Bass; Dave - Drums
Rocco Deluca
and Screambox
November 2000 ~ May 2002
Driving blues-infused rock, overflowing with stellar musicianship, songwriting and a fair share of improvisation.
This was my first regular Percussion gig, playing Congas with Rocco and the Rodriguez twins weekly at the Gypsy Lounge.
Other Musicians: Rocco Deluca - Dobro, Guitar, Vocals; Jules Rodriguez - Drums, Nick Rodriguez - Bass
Tribal Wenzdaze
November 2001 ~ April 2003
A weekly underground gathering of the SoCal scene, it was all about pure impov. Good, bad, and transcendant.
Hosted by Dharma Tribe at their studio in Stanton, CA, this was the the continuation of the LBC club 354 vibe.
Other Musicians: Too many to list here. Some notable regulars included: Johnny Park, Timinator None, Matt O., Matt Kuster,
Dave Dannov, Nate Hambright, Matt Welch, and many, many more.
Dharma Tribe
January 1999 ~ April 2003
An elecrified quintet with an acoustic edge, this band quickly became well known
in Orange County, CAfor it's highly energetic vibe. Inventive and rocking original
tunes, tight live performances and unique style. For most of DT's days, we had
no bass guitarist. My brother Matt layed down the low end on the synth, while
simultaneously tearing up the keys. Eschewing electric guitars, Johnny and Tim
rocked the shit out of their acoustics, proving you don't need an amp to crank
it to 11. It was in this band that I first developed my acoustic-hybrid setup,
and the earliest band that I was in that performed group drum jams. There were
two distinct eras of the band, with different singers and different songs, each
with their own energy, both intense in their delivery.
Other Musicians: Johnny Park, Timinator None, Derik Winegar, Matt O., Sullivan

Sugerman/Russell
1995 ~ 1997
This was a duo that, while never having performed live, was integral for the
advancement of my art. Ali taught me the meaning of discipline and perfectionism,
as we took the foundation of The Stand and evolved it into something different.
By this point, we were in each other's heads, reading one another's minds while
creating spontaneous improvisational jams that would cross genres in a heartbeat.
Challenging ourselves to the extreme in the practice studio, we pushed each
other to new heights of ability. We recorded only one demo tape that never saw
the light of day, as we moved to different extremities of the continent, knowing
that one day our musical paths would cross again. I still regard Ali as one
of the best guitarists and one of my very best friends to this day.
Other Musicians: Ali Sugerman
The Stand
1993 ~ 1995
My very first real band, this progressive heavy metal project was way ahead
of it's time. Intricate arrangements, intense energy and blistering tempos mixed
with Ali's socially concious, venomous and literate lyrics. This is the band
that taught me all about playing in a band. There were only a few live performances,
and a couple of demo tapes, but this band's role in my personal growth was unique
and profound. I would not be the musician I am today had it not been for this
band of brothers.
Other Musicians: Ali Sugerman, Steve Perez, James Perez
